  REVIEW:

In Underworld Evolution, Selene (a Vampire) and Michael (a Werewolf of sorts) form Hollywood’s most unlikely depraved and blood-guzzling couple since Billy Bob Thorton and Angelina Jolie.

Underworld Evolution is the sequel to Underworld.  This movie begins where the first ended.  Selene (Kate Beckinsale) and Michael (Scott Speedman) fear retribution for killing a powerful vampire elder.  They must now convince the last and most powerful elder, Marcus, their actions were justified before he unleashes his vengeance on them.  But unknowingly, they hold the key to a secret that has been held for 8 centuries and Marcus will do anything it takes to get it.  Marcus and his twin brother – one bitten by a bat and one bitten by a wolf – became the first and most powerful vampire and werewolf of all time.  But, Marcus’s brother could not control his fury so was buried alive in a secret tomb.  Now, Marcus must free his brother so they may reign over the underworld.  What he doesn’t realize is that Selene and Michael will find new strength and fight with all they have to save themselves, protect their love, conquer evil, and ultimately change the future of the underworld forever.

Creatures of the dark battling to the . . . death? . . . may seem too intense and bizarre to be enjoyable for most, but Underworld Evolution is exactly that – intense, bizarre, and enjoyable!  Undeniably, it has the typical abundance of sexuality and violence; yet, unlike nearly every other Hollywood movie, it’s both exceptionally well done and all fits precisely within the story being told.  There is, however, the longstanding challenge of trying to logically plot the demise of immortal creatures; but, the movie’s thoughtful storyline achieves the objective with only few exceptions.  Superior filmmaking and an intriguing main character portrayed by the ideal actress make Underworld Evolution superbly entertaining for those with an appreciation for the darker side of fantasy.

On the Movie Night Traffic Light on a scale of GREEN meaning “Go – it’s a must see”, YELLOW meaning “Caution – it’s okay” and RED meaning “No - stop don’t do it."

We rate Underworld Evolution GREEN.  Go – as far as vampire movies go, this one is very well done.
